Velykins mintys

Regina Nuttall

Len Nuttall

-Matas 6:24

"Jzus tar jam: Jei nori bt tobulas, eik, parduok savo nuosavyb ir duok neturtliams, ir tursi lob danguje; paskui ateik ir sek mane.

-Matas 19:21

"O Jzus tar savo mokytiniams: I ties sakau jums, turtingas sunkiai eis dangaus karalyst. Ir vl sakau jums, lengviau kupranugariui pralsti pro adatos aus, nekaip turtingam eiti dangaus karalyst.

-Matas 19:23-24

-Matas 15:11

Jis tikjo, kad mons turi usiimti savais reikalais. Jie turi rpintis tuo, k patys veikia, o ne gyventi kit gyvenimais.

"Neteiskite, kad nebtute teisiami, nes kokiu teismu teisiate, tokiu js bsite teisiami, ir kokiu saiku seikite, tokiu jums bus atseikima."

-Matas 7:1-2

Veidmainy, pirma isitrauk i savo akies rst, o paskui irk kaip itraukti krisl i savo brolio akies."

-Matas 7:3-5

Didesnei daliai moni, augusi kriionikoje kultroje, ie fragmentai yra puikiai inomi. Taiau keli i j pagal juos gyvena? Mes nenorime pamokslauti. Ypa per Velykas, kai visk pasako pats Jzaus odis.

Easter Thoughts

Regina Nuttall

Len Nuttall

Easter is arguably the most important holiday on the Christian calendar.  It celebrates Christians belief that Jesus, after being executed by the Romans, was resurrected and taken up to heaven.  Many people who call themselves Christians focus on the rituals of the Church and dont seem to pay very much attention to the kind of lifestyle Jesus wanted his followers to live.

He believed that the pursuit of money was a corrupting influence.

"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."

-Matthew 6:24

"Jesus answered, 'If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.'"

-Matthew 19:21

"Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.'"

-Matthew 19:23-24

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

-Matthew 6:19-21

He believed that both charity and prayer were private acts.  When you pray or do good works, it should be between you and God.  Nobody else even needs to know.

"Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. "

-Matthew 6:1

"When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

-Matthew 6:16-18

"When you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

-Matthew 6:2-4

"When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

-Matthew 6:5-6

He did not believe in gossip.

"What goes into a man's mouth does not make him 'unclean,' but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean.'"

-Matthew 15:11

He believed that people should mind their own business.  They should pay attention to their own shortcomings and not worry about anybody elses.

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

-Matthew 7:1-2

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

-Matthew 7:3-5

Most people who grew up in a Christian culture are familiar with all these passages.  But how many apply them to their everyday lives?  How many people gossip and judge and lust after money, then go to church and call themselves good Christians?  How many put their donations in the collection plate with a grand flourish, hoping everyone will admire their generosity?  How many trumpet their supposed righteousness for the whole world to see?  We dont want to lecture.  Especially at Easter, the words of Jesus can speak for themselves.
